SVG vector QR code
Your printer is asking for a “vector file”? That’s the SVG. It keeps crisp edges at any size, where an enlarged PNG turns blurry.
Fill in the fields to see your QR.
Static QR: free and works forever, but it can't be edited and its scans aren't counted.
Make an editable version with statisticsWhat’s the difference between a PNG and an SVG QR code?
A PNG is made of pixels: blow it up past its size and it gets blurry or jagged. An SVG describes geometric shapes, so it redraws sharply at any size.
For a QR code, sharpness matters: fuzzy edges hurt scanning, especially on a large format read from a distance.
When should I use SVG?
Whenever the code goes to a print shop or into design software: flyers, posters, packaging, shop windows, banners, engraving. SVG opens in Illustrator, Inkscape, Affinity, Figma or Canva.
It’s also the right format for posters, flyers and windows and product labels.
When is PNG enough?
For screens, slides, e-mails or a Word document: PNG drops in anywhere. Scanotte exports it at 1,200 pixels wide, plenty for office printing at a few centimetres.
Unsure? Download both: they contain exactly the same code.
How do I download a QR code as SVG?
Make your code in the generator at the top of the page and click “Download SVG”. It’s free and needs no account, just like making a free QR code.
In the app, SVG export also works for styled codes (colours, logo) and editable codes.
Does SVG work for engraving or vinyl cutting?
Yes, it’s the format most laser engravers and vinyl cutters expect, since they follow vector paths. Just check the machine engraves the dark parts of the code and not the reverse.
On wood or metal, contrast is often lower than on paper: plan a bigger code and test a first piece with two phones before the full batch.
Can I edit an SVG QR code in a design app?
Resizing and moving it is safe. Avoid moving or recolouring individual squares, though: you could make it unreadable.
To change colours, remake it in Scanotte, which warns you if the contrast is too low. Before printing: dark dots on a light background, at least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) wide, a small logo if any, and a test with two different phones.
Will the SVG work in Canva or Word?
Canva and most design tools import SVG directly, and the code stays sharp when resized. Recent versions of Word and PowerPoint accept SVG too; older ones may need the PNG.
Whatever the tool, don’t stretch the code unevenly: keep it square, or phones will struggle to read it.
Frequently asked questions
Is SVG export paid?
No, SVG is free, just like PNG.
My printer wants a PDF. How?
Place the SVG in your layout software and export the document as PDF: the code stays vector inside it.
Does an editable code’s SVG change when I change the destination?
No. The pattern holds the short Scanotte address, which stays the same; only the destination changes, on Scanotte’s side.
What’s the minimum print size?
At least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) for close-up scanning, more if people scan from further away.
