WhatsApp QR code
Your customer scans, WhatsApp opens a chat with you and a message already typed, like “Hi, I’d like to book a table”. All they do is tap Send.
Fill in the fields to see your QR.
Static QR: free and works forever, but it can't be edited and its scans aren't counted.
Make an editable version with statisticsHow does a WhatsApp QR code work?
The code holds an official WhatsApp link — wa.me followed by your number — with optional text. Scanning it opens WhatsApp on a chat with you, message pre-filled.
People don’t need to save your number first: that’s the whole point for a shop, a tradesperson or a club.
How do I make one with Scanotte?
In the app, pick the WhatsApp type, enter your number in international format (for example +44 7…) and the message to pre-fill. Scanotte builds the wa.me link for you.
On this page you can also paste a wa.me link straight into the link generator if you already have one.
What message should I pre-fill?
A short message saying where the person came from and what they want: “Hi, I saw your poster and I’d like a quote.” You know what it’s about straight away.
If you use several places (window, flyer, van), a different message per code tells you which one works. Editable codes show it in their statistics too.
Static or editable for WhatsApp?
Static: the number and message are baked into the code — free, but you’ll remake it if your number changes. Editable: change the number or message any time and see how many people scanned.
For each scan, Scanotte records the date, the type of device, the operating system and the approximate country. It never keeps the IP address and sets no cookie on the people who scan; link previews (WhatsApp, Slack…) aren’t counted. Static QR codes are free and unlimited. For editable QR codes with statistics: 1 is free, then Starter at €6.90 a month (15 editable QR codes), Pro at €12.90 a month (100) or Business at €39 a month (500). Billed yearly, that’s €5.90, €11 and €33 a month.
The differences are laid out in static vs dynamic.
Where should I display it?
On your shop window, van, flyer, business card or poster: anywhere someone might want to reach you without calling. Before printing: dark dots on a light background, at least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) wide, a small logo if any, and a test with two different phones.
To offer WhatsApp alongside other links, use a multi-link page, as for your Instagram code.
Does it work for a WhatsApp group or community?
Yes, if you have an invite link: WhatsApp gives one in the group settings. Paste it into the link generator to get a code people scan to join.
Invite links can be reset in WhatsApp; with an editable code, you just paste the new link and the printed code keeps working.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need WhatsApp Business?
No, wa.me links work with regular WhatsApp and WhatsApp Business accounts.
Does the person need WhatsApp?
Yes, to send the message. Without the app, the link opens a WhatsApp web page offering to install it.
Do WhatsApp link previews skew the statistics?
No: when a Scanotte link is shared in a chat, the preview WhatsApp generates isn’t counted as a scan.
Can I change the message later?
Yes with an editable code, without reprinting. With a static code, you make a new one.
