QR code for an e-mail, a text or a call
You want people to message or call you with one scan. The right code depends on the channel: here’s what exists, and what Scanotte can do.
How do I make a QR code that opens an e-mail?
In the Scanotte app, choose the E-mail type, enter the recipient address and, if you like, a subject line. The phone that scans it opens its mail app with a new message already addressed.
It’s a static code, so it’s free with no expiry date. Handy for customer support, job applications or feedback at a trade show.
What about receiving a text message?
WhatsApp is often the most effective: the code opens a chat with your number and a pre-written message, which people only have to send. It’s all in the WhatsApp QR code.
Scanotte doesn’t offer a dedicated “SMS” type. If your customers don’t use WhatsApp, an e-mail code or a business card is still a good option.
Can a QR code start a phone call?
Scanotte has no dedicated “call” type. The most practical option is the vCard business card: the phone saves your number and people call when it suits them, with no typos.
For a tradesperson or a repair service, that’s often better than an instant call: your number stays in their contacts for next time.
What if I want to offer several ways to get in touch?
A multi-link page puts several buttons behind a single code: WhatsApp, e-mail, booking, website, social media. People pick the channel they prefer.
The page is editable, so you add or remove a button without reprinting. The free plan includes 1 page; Starter gives you 3. See also the link shortener to share the same page as text.
Do these codes expose my address or number?
Yes, a static code holds the details in plain text: anyone who scans it sees your address or number. Only print it where you’d share those details anyway.
For an address you’d rather not display, a multi-link page with a button to a contact form is more discreet. Before printing: dark dots on a light background, at least 2 cm (about 0.8 in) wide, a small logo if any, and a test with two different phones.
Which one should I put on a van, a shop or a flyer?
On a van or a shop window, people often want a quick question answered: WhatsApp works well. On a flyer for a professional service, the vCard keeps your details for later.
If you can’t decide, a multi-link page lets each person choose, and its statistics show which button gets clicked.
Frequently asked questions
Is the e-mail QR code free?
Yes, like every static Scanotte code: free, unlimited, no account needed to start.
Can I pre-fill the e-mail body?
Scanotte fills in the address and subject. For a pre-filled message, the WhatsApp code does it.
Is the e-mail code in the generator on this page?
No, the public generator does links, Wi-Fi, vCard and Google reviews. E-mail and text are made in the app.
Can I count scans of an e-mail code?
No, an e-mail code is static. To count scans, use an editable code pointing to a multi-link page or to WhatsApp.
